Ariane started teaching Humanities at Ormiston Venture Academy in September of 2012 after completing her Initial Teacher Training at the University of East Anglia. She is now in her second year as Head of Humanities. Below she tells her story

I started teaching at Venture in June 2012 as an NQT Geography curriculum leader. As the only geography teacher in the academy, I initially had a lot of responsibility with planning and leading the teaching for the geography GCSE. My Head of Faculty supported me with this and I was able to attend exam board specific training for first time teaching. Throughout my NQT year, I was supported by an experienced mentor and completed the Venture NQT training programme. I was also able to regularly observe outstanding practice around the academy.

I was appointed to Head of Humanities in September 2013. To support my leadership role, I attended personalised CPD sessions aimed at new HoF and was supported through this transition by my line manager. During my time as Head of Humanities I have led three members of SLT and an NQT, along with four subject areas within my remit.

I have been challenged at Venture and this has enabled me to develop strong leadership skills. My confidence has grown as both a teacher and a leader. I am looking forward to future challenges that Venture has to offer.
