What is Schools Direct Salaried?

School Direct Salaried (SDS) is an exciting and challenging Initial Teacher Training that Ignite offers in association with Suffolk and Norfolk Initial Teacher Training (SNITT).  The programme attracts a wide variety of graduates into the teaching profession, including those seeking a career change.  Many, though not all, of those who train via this route already have significant school experience. One of the reasons to choose this route is that this ITT route offers you the unique opportunity to earn a salary as you train to teach and there are no tuition fees to worry about. It also offers a more ‘hands-on’ experience: As an SDS trainee with Ignite you will become part of a team of experienced professionals in a school from the start of the school year and will, therefore, benefit from opportunities to work and learn alongside experienced teachers both within the school and the larger alliance.

You will spend four days each week working within your Ignite placement school and one day each week in central training. Within your placement school you will gain further classroom experience by gradually taking over responsibility for additional lessons in the course of the year under the supervision of an experienced teacher.  Your maximum timetable commitment in term three will be 13 hours per week.

How do I apply?

Applications for School Direct Salaried places are made through UCAS. To make an application for an Ignite School you need to search for Ormiston Venture Academy or Ignite and apply to us through the UCAS system. Short listing will take place soon after you have applied and if you are successful through this first stage you will be called for interview at Ormiston Venture Academy. Your eventual salaried placement isn’t necessarily at Ormiston Venture Academy and may well be at one of the schools in the Teaching School Alliance.

Please note all School Direct candidates will be expected to have passed their QTS skills tests in both English and maths before they begin their training.
