 What is Schools Direct Training?

Schools Direct Training is an exciting partnership between Ignite and the University of East Anglia UEA, where we are able to offer a full PGCE through School Direct combining the best of both the university based post graduate qualifications and the hands on experience gained through school based training. You will study for a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education with an additional award of 90 Master’s credits – PGCE(M). The course will lead to you gaining qualified teacher status (QTS). As a School Direct trainee you will study alongside and follow the same programme as the UEA Provider-led PGCE(M) students. During your course you will spend approximately two thirds of your time in a school within the Ignite Alliance of schools working alongside experienced teachers to develop your practice. For the remaining third of the course you will spend time working with academic staff and peers at UEA to develop subject-specific pedagogy and explore areas of professional development.

Ignite are able to offer placements for both Primary and Secondary training. Whilst Ormiston Venture Academy acts as the lead school in this partnership your training placement(s) may take place at any of the partnership schools involved in the Ignite Teaching School Alliance.

How do I apply?

Applications for School Direct Training places are made through UCAS. Please note all School Direct candidates will be expected to have passed their QTS skills tests in both English and maths before they begin their training.
